Pep Guardiola wins third straight Premier League Manager of the Month award

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has been crowned Premier League Manager of the Month for the third consecutive month.

Guardiola, who guided his men in wins over Arsenal, Leicester, Huddersfield and Southampton last month, embarked on their record-breaking run of 15 successive league wins.

The former Barcelona manager topped a six-man shortlist to land the November award and become the second manager ever to win it three straight times.

Chelsea’s Antonio Conte, Burnley’s Sean Dyche, Man United’s Jose Mourinho, Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp and Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger were the other managers nominated.

Conte is the only other man to have won three straight Manager of the Month awards – in October, November and December of 2016. Conte’s Chelsea side had recorded 13 successive victories en route to the league title.

The record for most total Manager of the Month wins is held by Sir Alex Ferguson, who won it 27 times throughout his glittering 27-year spell in charge of United. Arsenal manager Wenger is a distant second with 15.

Manchester City became the first team ever to record 15 consecutive Premier League victories after thrashing Swansea 4-0 at the Liberty Stadium on Wednesday night.

They had equalled the record, previously set by Arsenal in 2002 across two seasons, with the 2-1 win at Old Trafford which saw them take a huge step towards the securing the Premier League title.

City have dropped just two points this season, in August’s 1-1 home draw with Everton which was just their second fixture of the 2017-18 campaign.

In total they have managed 16 victories from 17 matches played and sit 11 points clear of Mourinho’s United in second place.

They have scored a remarkable 52 goals so far this season, an average of more than three goals a game, and have conceded just 11 times.

And they have three players in the top 10 of the scoring charts this season – Sergio Aguero (10), Raheem Sterling (9) and Gabriel Jesus (8).
