Paris Saint-Germain appoint Thomas Tuchel as new manager

Paris Saint-Germain have appointed Thomas Tuchel as their new coach, replacing the departing Unai Emery, the club announced on Monday.

Tuchel, who left Borussia Dortmund a year ago after guiding the club to DFB-Pokal glory and a third-placed finish in the Bundesliga, has signed a two-year deal with the French champions.

Tuchel said: “It is with great joy, pride and ambition that I join this great world football Club that is Paris Saint-Germain. I look forward to working with all these great players, all of whom are among the best on the planet. ”

Emery announced his departure back in April, after a decision was reached not to renew his two-year contract.

“If the new coach needs something from me, I can offer my opinion,” Emery said at the time. “PSG’s project is very solid, and it will continue to grow and add major players. The next coach, whoever it is, will find a big club, with big opportunities — I am there to offer some help.”

Emery succeeded Laurent Blanc at PSG in June 2016 after spending parts of four seasons coaching Sevilla, but consecutive exits in the Champions League round of 16
