Olivier Giroud wins The FIFA Puskas Award for Goal of the Year
Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has won the FIFA Puskas Award for goal of the year after stunning scorpion kick against Crystal Palace.
Giroud gave Arsenal the lead in a 2-0 win against Crystal Palace in the Premier League, and the France international saw off competition from Deyna Castellanos and Oscarine Masuluke.
“It’s not difficult to say that’s the best one,” said Giroud at the time.
“I needed God’s help to score that goal. It was a bit lucky but it was the only thing I could do.
“The ball was behind me and I tried to hit it with the backheel. I tried to deflect it. In that position you can’t do anything else.”
