Liverpool confirm Emre Can and Jon Flanagan will leave club

Liverpool have confirmed that Emre Can and Jon Flanagan will leave Anfield when their contracts expire at the end of June.

Can, who joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen in July 2014 for £10m, has been linked with a move to Italian champions Juventus.

The Germany midfielder was signed by Brendan Rodgers and made his 167th and final appearance for Liverpool in last month’s Champions League final defeat by Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, Flanagan, 25, who spent the end of the 2017-18 season on loan at Championship club Bolton, is also leaving Anfield after failing to make a first-team appearance in Jurgen Klopp’s team last season.

The defender found first-team opportunities few and far between under Klopp, and went on to make just 51 senior appearances since his debut in 2011.

Flanagan has one England cap after playing in a friendly against Ecuador in 2014.

A club statement said: “Everybody at Liverpool FC thanks all departing players for their contributions and wishes them the best of luck for the future.”
