Real Madrid have been dealt a major blow as star midfielder Isco was forced to withdraw from the Spanish squad due to injury.
Isco, who was substituted in the 65th minute for Marco Asensio in the 5-0 trashing of Costa Rica in Málaga, will not travel to Russia with the rest of the squad on Sunday afternoon after picking up a knock in heavy challenge by Kendall Watson.
The former Malaga midfielder will instead return to the Spanish capital so that club doctors can assess the damage.
This won’t be a good news for Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane as the 25-year-old midfielder has continued his good form this campaign, making 17 appearances and contributing five goals and four assists.
The Spanish giants travel to Atletico eight points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona.
