Giroud scores late header to rescue one point for Arsenal
Giroud rescues a point for the Gunners at Southampton
Olivier Giroud came off the bench to earn Arsenal a late draw against Southampton during Sunday’s Premier League action.
Giroud, who replaced Alexandre Lacazette in the 73rd minute at St Mary’s, rose highest to nod home a header from Alexis Sanchez’s cross with just two minutes of the match remaining.
Charlie Austin gave Saints the perfect start, opening the scoring after just three minutes. The home side gave up a few chances in the first half but were fairly comfortable, and they were the better side after the break, too, doing damage on the counter.
The result means Southampton rise to 10th in the table, with Arsenal jumping one spot ahead of Tottenham to fifth.
