England boss Gareth Southgate lauds Harry Kane

He is as good as anybody I’ve played with or worked with - Gareth Southgate hails the England frontman

England boss Gareth Southgate has  hailed Harry Kane as one of his country’s finest ever striker.

Kane, who has now scored in each of the four occasions he has captained England, converted a first half spot kick to notch his 15th goal in the last 10 games for club and country.

And Southgate said: “It’s a fantastic record and his finishing quality is top – as good as anybody I’ve played with or worked with.

“I’m never in any doubt that, when he has a good opportunity, it’s going to be on target and there’s a fair chance he scores. We’re fortunate to have him.”

The Tottenham forward has been tipped to be named permanent captain.

But the manager has  admitted he is in no rush to give him the armband.

He added: “I couldn’t be happier with he way he’s led, both in terms of by example on the pitch with his performances, but also with the group.

“I know everyone wants me to get a shift on, but, again, I want to give myself time.

“What else would be right for the next couple of months if I didn’t.”
