Cristiano Ronaldo wins 2017 Best FIFA Men’s Player Award

Cristiano Ronaldo beats Lionel Messi and Neymar to win The Best FIFA Men's Player

Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has been named The Best FIFA Men’s Player award in London.

Ronaldo, who scored twice as Madrid beat Juventus 4-1 in the Champions League final, saw off competition from Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and PSG star Neymar to win the award for a second straight year.

The 32-year-old had been favourite to claim the accolade after a year that saw him help Madrid to a third Champions League crown in four seasons and a first La Liga title in five years, as well as the FIFA Club World Cup.

“Thank you for voting for me,” said Ronaldo.

“I want to mention Leo (Messi) and Neymar.

“I want to thank Real Madrid for their support all year. We are in England for the first time, and I win it for the second consecutive time. This is a great moment for me.

“Thank you to all my fans all over the world. I appreciate that. I’m so happy, thank you very much and have a good night.”

Netherlands’ Lieke Martens won The Best FIFA Women’s Player award over last year’s winner Carli Lloyd of the U.S., while Dutch coach Sarina Wiegman received the women’s coach award after winning Euro 2017 this summer.

“Thank you very much everyone,” said Martens.

“I want to thank all my team-mates, without you I couldn’t achieve this. Of course my family is a very big part of it. To dad and mom, this one is also for you. Thank you very much!”
