Brazil name final 23-man squad for the World Cup

Brazil have announced their final 23-man squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. 

Brazil have been drawn in Group E alongside, Serbia, Costa Rica and Switzerland, and face Switzerland in their opening game on June 17.

The South America giants have decided to name their final squad three weeks early in order to get better preparation ahead of Russia.

PSG right-back Dani Alves is the biggest omission from the list, having been ruled out of the tournament last week after picking up a knee injury. Fágner of Corinthians will replace him.

The likes of Gabriel Jesus, Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino all boarding the plane bound for Russia while Juventus defender Alex Sandro has been omitted from the squad.

The players are scheduled to arrive at the Granja Comary in Teresopolis on May 21, where they will work for a week before departing for London on May 27.

They will then base themselves in London at Tottenham Hotspur’s newly built ‘Lodge’ at Hotspur Way ahead of their Brasil Global Tour friendly with Croatia at Anfield on June 3. After the match, they will return to London until June 8, when they depart for Vienna to take on Austria on June 10.

The Selecao head to Russia on June 11 head of their World Cup opener on June 17.
